The universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski is growing thanks to new productions developing the stories of subsequent heroes. But how does a full-fledged and detailed map of this climatic world look like? Cartographers from the University of Warsaw faced the mission, presenting an extremely detailed picture of individual lands.
The world of The Witcher has long inspired and intrigued many artists who, reaching for the works of a Polish writer, prepare new productions. So far, the presentations of possible sculptures of individual lands of the Northern States have been undertaken by developers from CD Projekt RED, but the growing popularity of Geralt’s adventures, undoubtedly influenced by the Netflix series, encouraged the employees of the Department of Political and Historical Geography at the University of Warsaw to implement an extremely interesting initiative.
Based on the novels of Andrzej Sapkowski, but also on the series, games and comics, the cartographers developed a fully-fledged and extremely detailed map design taking into account the exact terrain and political situation of the world, which we could not only read about in subsequent novels and stories. Many new names and geographical features were also created to complete the map.
“The overall layout of the countries, mountain ranges and major rivers is consistent with the maps produced so far by the fans. However, it is the first such detailed map that accurately shows the topography, borders and rivers, the location of the islands and the location of cities classified according to the number of inhabitants. ‘
At first glance, the project looks very impressive. However, when we focus on the details, we will notice a lot of work that the creators put into developing such a careful topography of all parts of the continent. The employees of the plant deserve praise – Geralt’s world has not yet been presented so reliably and meticulously on the map.
