CD Projekt RED confirmed yesterday the news and announced its willingness to finish work on the next-gen The Witcher 3 on its own. The company has not officially confirmed why it resigned from Saber Interactive, but the situation had to be commented on by Embracer Group.
Embracer Group is a Swedish holding company with 115 internal development teams , including 10 operating groups – including THQ Nordic and Saber Interactive. The American company has 22 studios, including Saber Russia, and it was this team that developed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the Nintendo Switch and apparently was involved in the transfer of Geralt’s story to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.
CD Projekt RED announced yesterday that it wants to finish work on The Witcher on its own , which was combined with earlier accusations of “Russophobia” for a reason – Poles reportedly did not want to cooperate with developers from Russia.
The situation had to be commented on by Embracer, which, although it does not intend to go into details, the company emphasizes that the situation will not affect the company’s profitability – although Embracer may lose a maximum of USD 500,000.
“Without specifically commenting on any agreement, no relationship has changed that would have any financial impact on the group’s total revenue or profitability, at least not exceeding $ 500,000.”
We can assume that although CD Projekt had to pay for the work done, Saber Interactive could have guaranteed a certain percentage of the sale of the new version of The Witcher 3 for a certain period of time. This money will no longer go to the Embracer Group’s account, but the situation will not affect the operation of the entire holding.
The corporation cannot provide details, but it is worth noting that Embracer Group still speaks of the Polish company in superlatives.
“We have great respect for CD Projekt as a company that has proven to be one of the best game development teams in the world. Regarding this particular point, we cannot comment on the relationship with business partners. “
It is worth adding that the Embracer Group share price fell by 6.5% on Thursday.
