It’s been exactly 5 years, 5 months and 19 days since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released, and we’re still waiting for its sequel.
Last August 19, 2022 was an important date for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 , which has officially become the chapter of the series that has been expected the most from the previous chapter, namely The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, five years, five months and nineteen days have passed since its launch at the time of writing this news.
The previous record was held by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which was released just five years, five months and fifteen days after The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
Of course Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was not included in the count, because we are only talking about official chapters .
With the increasing complexity of video games, it is unfortunately normal that there can be severe delays in launches, between internal problems and ambitions of the development teams. Development cycles of 4 and 5 years are now the norm for a triple A and can go further in case of particularly demanding projects.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 should have been released in 2022, but in March the director Eiji Aonuma announced the postponement to 2023 , as indeed happened to many games of 2022. Not bad, given that the Switch lineup is been very rich all year. Just recently the excellent Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was released, to say, and Splatoon 3 and Bayonetta 3 are coming soon . However, it is natural for fans to look forward to the new Zelda, given that we are always talking about one of the main Nintendo sagas, which has been alive for more than thirty-six years.
