Philipp Weber of CD Projekt RED confirms in an interview with Vandal that Saber Interactive started working on this version in 2020 before CD Projekt picked up the baton.
Saber Interactive , the studio responsible for bringing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition to Nintendo Switch in one of those near miraculous adaptations, began work on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of the acclaimed open-world RPG in 2020 , As confirmed by Phillip Weber, acting narrative director and lead quest designer at CD Projekt RED.
“Personally, I was not involved in how the decision was made,” Weber responded when asked why development moved earlier this year (in February, according to the developer) from Saber to CD Projekt. “What I can say is that we worked for a while with Saber . For example, on ray tracing , they were also working on modeling and 4K textures, also on vegetation…”
Weber continues: “Once CD Projekt took over the project, we took all those elements to finish it and also added a lot of new elements, for example, the quality of life improvements and even more graphical improvements .”
In addition, the developer clarifies that those involved in the version for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S of Cyberpunk 2077 have been responsible for this new adaptation. “A lot of the graphics programmers who worked on Cyberpunk 2077 and did the next-gen ray-traced version have also worked on this version [of The Witcher 3 ] . A lot of them were veterans who also worked on The Witcher 3: original Wild Hunt , so they knew the publisher very well.”
