Yuzo Koshiro announces that Ancient, his development studio, is working on a retro shooter video game inspired by the classics of the 80s for the veteran Sega console.
Yuzo Koshiro , a legendary composer in the video game industry having authored the soundtracks for many classic titles of the 16-bit era, including the Streets of Rage trilogy for the Sega Mega Drive , The Revenge of Shinobi , and ActRaiser , confirms through his personal Twitter account that he is working on a new shoot ’em up for the veteran Sega console. As the artist has revealed, this game is being developed by Ancient , his own development studio.
“It looks like an old shoot ’em up but is a new game we’re developing, harkening back to famous franchises in the 80s,” we can read in Koshiro’s statement. “We will release it for MD/Genesis. I’m making the soundtrack and have been back also as a game designer since Beyond Oasis.(aka The Story of Thor ).” Looking at these pictures, you probably don’t think this game is going to be a bullet hell We respect the games of the time that we love and we will make this a fun game with a new system, fascinating graphics, characters and a soundtrack to match” he explains about the approach of the project.
Koshiro further notes that since the game is being developed for the original Mega Drive hardware , the music will accommodate the limitations of the console’s sound chip . “The soundtrack and sound effects will definitely work with a native YM2608 controller. It’s the first time in 30 years that I’ve worked on the Mega Drive / Genesis since I did all the songs for Beyond Oasis.”
When and how will the game be released?
Although it is a very exciting project, Koshiro still doesn’t know how he will launch the game on the market. He does not know what the launch format will be like and other aspects such as the price or the release date , but he affirms that the studio “is considering various ideas to launch it.” “We cannot speed up our work, but we will continue to develop. As the game is completely original to our company, we will keep you informed,” he concludes. Does this project attract your attention?
