Last spring it was confirmed that Payday 3 will arrive in 2023: the development of the new game by Overkill Software and also produced by Starbreeze Studios in collaboration with Prime Matter is proceeding well, and concrete news on the project should therefore not be long in coming.
However, it seems that Starbreeze is also working on a further yet unannounced project, and which will be completely disconnected from the Payday IP : this was revealed by the company itself during its latest financial report relating to the third quarter of 2022, hinting to the fact that the mystery game will be released after Payday 3 and aims to make it a reality by 2025 .
However, Starbreeze Studios does not provide additional details on the work in the pipeline, limiting itself to ensuring that the work is already underway. It is therefore not clear whether it will be a completely new IP or if instead the company’s next game will be based on an already existing property and, perhaps, connected to another company. In any case, Starbreeze’s plans foresee the publication of at least three games within the next five years.
In recent years, the Swedish studio has faced many difficulties, even finding itself laying off 25% of its employees in 2019. Starbreeze then managed to complete its restructuring after 12 months, and after past problems it now seems to have all the resources necessary to return to being a certainty of the videogame landscape.
