According to a Business Insider report, PlayStation aims to follow Xbox on the front of introducing advertising in free-to-play games.
PlayStation follows Xbox on the matter of advertising within free-to-play games : a way to monetize that goes beyond microtransactions and could make projects of this type more sustainable.
A few days ago the news broke that Microsoft could insert advertising in free-to-play games , and today the Business Insider cites some anonymous sources who claim Sony will do the same , or at least these would be the intentions of the Japanese company.
Three people involved in the project claim different solutions are being tested with some promotional partners. The goal would be to allow developers more creative freedom on the F2P front .
The operation should start by the end of this year and allow the introduction of advertising within the PlayStation games, but in an integrated way: signs in the stadiums , for example, but also trailers that grant rewards if users want to watch them.
Also according to these sources, Sony would have started discussing this possibility about eighteen months ago, but at the same time it was very clear in saying that the advertised companies will not be able to collect user data.
