Steam Deck has sold more than a million units and is currently still disposing of reservations – a huge success for Valve.
Steam Deck is a big hit for Valve. According to KDE’s David Edmundson, it has sold more than a million units and the company is still processing bookings . Edmundson talked about it at the Akademy 2022, where he explained how KDE’s work on the platform is continuing and what new features are planned for the immediate future.
For the uninitiated, Steam Deck is basically a Linux PC that includes KDE’s Plasma desktop mode , which is freely usable. Precisely for this choice made by Valve, the KDE team (an international community whose main activity is the development of Free Software ) is working to improve several aspects of its software, so as to make it a better experience for everyone.
Of course, great sales help. Edmundson quoted them at 29:45, clearly saying, “They’ve passed the million mark and are still disposing of reservations.”
Valve has not yet provided official numbers on Steam Deck sales and it should be specified that Edmundson has not spoken on behalf of the company, but nevertheless is considered a well-informed person, since he works directly on the platform’s software.
Given the numbers that other consoles make, one million units may seem modest. They are actually a huge amount considering the Steam Deck is only sold through Steam and is actually a PC with portable functions.
