Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain challenged the community to defuse all nukes in online mode, but players have realized seven years later that it’s impossible.
According to an investigation, the nuclear warhead disarming event of Metal Gear Solid 5 , the latest installment in the Hideo Kojima series, is impossible to complete, at least using the tools provided by the game.
Last week, YouTube channel Did You Know Gaming released a video of the mysterious final chapter of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Of course, the fan theory that the nuclear disarmament sequence would unlock Chapter 3, called Peace, is also covered. Everything comes from the game files in which there would be references to the alleged chapter cut.
However, according to the investigations carried out, the nuclear disarmament event cannot be activated organically, because there are about 40 nuclear warheads that cannot be reached and disarmed by the players (PS3 version).
So, the only way to do it is to use tricks, as done years ago by the so-called Anti-Nuke Gang and as confirmed by Konami. So there is no way to achieve that goal, which leads to the Peace theory also being considered disproved.
Why is it impossible to get nuclear disarmament from Metal Gear Solid 5 ?
To achieve the secret ending of nuclear disarmament, players on the same platform must cooperate to disable all nuclear warheads on all Forward Operating Bases (FOBs). It is a very ambitious goal that would require the cooperation of the entire community to achieve, however when trying it on the platform with the least number of nukes to defuse (PS3) it seemed a little more achievable. A group of gamers got down to business and started disabling all the warheads a couple of years ago, five years after the original game was released, but quickly realized it would be impossible to do it legitimately .
The reason that prevents this task from being completed is that the nuclear bombs of banned accounts cannot be deactivated , so there will always be a remnant of warheads that prevents disarmament in a legal manner, without the use of tricks. Konami has not solved this problem in the almost seven years that the game has been on the market and it does not seem that it will do it soon. In addition, PS3 players who embarked on the mission to achieve nuclear disarmament developed software that allowed them to know how many bombs were left and on which base they were, a tool with which they discovered 40 ghost warheads that add to the count but do not are registered in no base.
Even so, through data mining , the following video was obtained, which is the secret ending that is seen when nuclear disarmament is achieved:
Once discovered that it is impossible to achieve nuclear disarmament, the theories begin: is Konami actively preventing the achievement of this secret ending? Over the years, the possibility has been pointed out that nuclear disarmament hid the famous Chapter 3 of Metal Gear Solid V, a part of the game that was discovered in the internal files but never came to light . Perhaps this curious challenge was the beginning of that final episode? The company itself dropped it after the game was released, although Hideo Kojima spoke of disarmament as a “social experiment” .
Be that as it may, the truth is that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is still a great game to return to. It is available on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
