Michael Gamble, the director of the upcoming Mass Effect, explains that a BioWare store product description that anticipated the return of Commander Shepard was wrong.
BioWare and Electronic Arts unveiled Mass Effect 4 (unofficial title) a year and a half ago and at The Game Awards 2020 they showed a teaser trailer that left many questions still unanswered. Youtuber MrHulthen posted a video a couple of days ago where he claimed to have found a detail that had been overlooked: a product description from the official BioWare store claimed that Commander Shepard will be back in this installment. However, since then the description has changed and the game director has blamed it on a mistake by the team that operates the merchandising sales website..
“While Shepard and the survivors are left to pick up the pieces, fans are left wondering what’s next” , could be read until a few days ago in the description of a lithograph based on the official art of Mass Effect 4 published last November (and in which three tiny characters appear who, some speculate, are a Krogan and an Asari, specifically Liara T’Soni). The new description reads: “The threat of the Reapers might have been ended, but at great cost including Earth itself. While the survivors are left to pick up the pieces, fans are left wondering what’s next.”
Michael Gamble , the BioWare project manager who is leading the team responsible for the new Mass Effect , took to Twitter to clarify the situation: ” The original [description] was written by the people who run the store and aren’t familiar with the game .” Therefore, end of discussion. Or not? It doesn’t seem like it, some fans of the saga cling to the straw that Gamble has not denied that Commander Shepard reappears.
