2K Games and Hangar 13 have confirmed that the Mafia saga is getting a new game soon, though it still appears to be in an early stage of development. Rumors spoke of a possible prequel.
The Mafia saga turns 20 years old and 2K Games is celebrating it with various actions, such as giving away the first Mafia for free on Steam from September 1 to 5 or publishing an interview with the developers of the franchise. Precisely in the latter it has been where it has been confirmed that there is a new installment on the way , although it still seems to be a project in very early stages of development.
Specifically, it was Roman Hladík , General Manager at Hangar 13, who confirmed that there is already a new Mafia game on the way: “I am delighted to confirm that we have started working on a completely new Mafia project !”, he says without entering in details, although the way he speaks could indicate that it is a game with an independent plot to the one we have seen in previous installments of the saga. A recent rumor pointed to a possible prequel developed in Unreal Engine 5.
When will the new Mafia be released?
Although too many details of the new game in the Mafia saga have not been specified , from Hangar 13 they have wanted to make it clear that it is a project that has a lot of development time left: ” There are still a few years to go and we cannot say anything more for at the moment , but we are very excited to continue working on this beloved series and entertain players with new stories,” says Roman Hladík in the interview .
The last game in the Mafia saga was Mafia: Definitive Edition , a remake of the first installment that was published in 2020 for PS4 , Xbox One and PC . Along with it, Mafia 2: Definitive Edition was also launched , a somewhat less ambitious remastering that reached the same three platforms. Earlier, in 2016, Mafia III was released , which is the last original game in the series. All three projects have been developed by Hangar 13 , which is also the studio behind the new game.
