John Romero has revealed that he is working on a new FPS: the creator of Doom is now hiring for this mysterious project. Here’s what we know.
John Romero – best known as the creator of Doom – has revealed that he is working on a new FPS . Romero Games, aka his development studio, is hiring for this project.
The information was shared via Twitter , where Romero wrote: “It’s a new dawn for Romero Games. We’re working with a major publisher to develop John Romero’s next shooter: an all-new FPS with an original, new IP. Our team is expanding , and we’re looking for talented people for all positions and at all experience levels, particularly those with Unreal Engine 5 experience.”
The ad reveals some important information : it is a new IP and is developed with Unreal Engine 5. Furthermore, it is claimed that “a great publisher” is behind the project: unfortunately there are not enough clues in this message to understand who it is.
Through the Romero Games website, we can see that various roles available require experience with multiplayer . There is talk of “great experience” with “multiplayer components of current generation console and PC games”. Additionally, the team is looking for an “Online Architect” and a “Senior Multiplayer Programmer”.
From the looks of it, this game will be Romero Games’ biggest project to date. For Romero himself, co-founder of id Software and Ion Storm, this will be the first major FPS of his career in many years. In 2019, he released the SIGIL level pack for the original Doom, which became the unofficial fifth episode of the game, and is also currently working on SIGIL 2.
