The gaming industry could have looked a bit different today, if years ago the Redmond giant believed in Rockstar’s vision and decided to sign an exclusive contract. The first Xbox could exclusively receive GTA 3.
In 2001, GTA 3 made its debut on PlayStation 2, was transferred to the PC (2002), and only in 2003 it hit the first Xbox. The premiere of the production could have looked completely different, because it turns out that Rockstar representatives offered the game to Microsoft in the first place.
A few days ago, a multi-part document devoted to the history of the Xbox was released , in which we can trace the most important moments of the brand. The creators present both very successful actions and decisions that brought disastrous results – giving up GTA 3 is undoubtedly one of the less successful moves.
From the indicated time, Rockstar has worked very closely with PlayStation, thanks to which some titles initially debuted on Sony consoles. The Japanese publisher even announced an Agent that was never created.
Thanks to the latest material, we can get to know some additional information “behind the scenes”, which clearly show that Microsoft’s governors have had mishaps. Close cooperation with Rockstar from the very beginning of the first Xbox would certainly make the console even more successful.
