Microsoft and Valve have released a new solution for using the Xbox Cloud through Microsoft Edge on the Steam Deck.
Microsoft and Valve are collaborating to bring the Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud to the Steam Deck , and a first working solution is now available through Microsoft Edge Beta , an as-yet-unfinished version of the Microsoft browser that can be used on the Valve device.
As reported by the developers of Microsoft, the solution is particularly interesting because it opens the door to the arrival of Xbox Cloud and Game Pass also on Linux in general and in particular on Steam Deck, in fact. There is already an official list of Xbox Game Studios games compatible with the device and verified, while on the official Microsoft website there is also a guide on how to install Microsoft Edge Beta on Steam Deck, reachable at this address .
In any case, on the Reddit page dedicated to the topic there are also instructions on how to install Microsoft Edge in Beta version on Steam Deck. Once the application is inserted, you can use the Xbox Cloud directly from the browser. Consider that the following commands include some strings to be entered in the Console, so they require you to “enter” the system a little bit:
- Press Steam menu> Power> Switch to Desktop
- Click on the Discover Software Center icon
- Click on the hamburger menu> Internet> Web Browser
- Scroll the screen to Microsoft Edge Beta and click on install
- Back to the Desktop, click on Application Launcher at the bottom left of the taskbar
- Surf the internet
- Right click on Microsoft Edge (beta)> Add to Steam
- In the “Add a game” window, scroll to find Microsoft Edge (beta) and select it
- Go back to the Applications menu, then System> Konsole
- Insert the override with this command in Konsole:
flatpak –user override –filesystem = / run / udev: ro com.microsoft.Edge - In case you get a notice of lack of permissions, enter the following command:
sudo steamos-readonly disable - On Desktop, launch Steam
- Go to the Library and find Microsoft Edge (beta)
- Right Click> Properties
- Change your name to Xbox Cloud Gaming (beta)
- Find Launch Options and enter the following command:
–window-size = 1024,640 –force-device-scale-factor = 1.25 –device-scale-factor = 1.25 –kiosk “https://www.xbox.com/play”
The Reddit page also shows the commands to change the layout of the controls and to insert the appropriate official artwork for the shortcut. We also recently saw that Elden Ring runs well on Steam Deck after Valve’s optimization.
