The co-founder and president of Valve confesses that he left World of Warcraft and has returned to the Square Enix MMO to be a ‘minion’ of his son and help him in raids.
Valve has started shipping its portable console computer, the Steam Deck , to gamers this Monday, February 28, but since the end of last week some media and YouTube channels have published reviews of the device. One of them, IGN , has been able to chat with Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of the company responsible for Half-Life , who has said that he mainly uses the console to play the MMO Final Fantasy XIV .
The experienced developer responds to the North American media that he has spent “a lot” of time with the Steam Deck. “Right now I’m playing Final Fantasy , “ says Newell in the statements collected by PC Gamer . “One of my kids got into Final Fantasy . I burned out on World of Warcraft ; I got to the point where they introduced a new level cap and after about ten minutes of play my mind melted. So I’ve been playing an MMO for a lot of time”.
“One of my kids was into Final Fantasy and he was pissed off at the people he went on raids with ,” the developer continues. “So he was like, ‘ Okay, I need a minion. Dad, be my minion . Be my healer who won’t let me die while I’m tanking .’ So I started playing him and I’ve been playing a lot on the [Steam] Deck.” “.
Newell has also been in the news today for another matter also related to the portable console. As reported by some users on Reddit , the developer himself stopped by several North American homes over the weekend to deliver the Steam Deck to its buyers … and even to other players who had not requested it.
