Tymon Smektala, lead designer on Dying Light 2: Stay Human, believes that the playable character in a future third installment should feel more powerful from the start of the game.
Dying Light and Dying Light 2 , both open world titlesdeveloped by Techland in which we face zombies and other types of mutated creatures, offer players different tools to fight against enemies in very creative ways as they invest more hours of play, ending the story with a very powerful character. However, Tymon Smektala , lead designer of the second installment, has shared in a recent exclusive interview with VGC his thoughts that the playable character of Dying Light 3 should feel powerful from the start of the adventure.
One thing is that if we’re making Dying Light 3, then I would like the main character to start with bigger and better starting abilities and skills
Broadly speaking, Smektala has commented that the fact of giving the player more skills and abilities from the beginning is an aspect that he would like to “correct” from Dying Light 2 and introduce in the next numbered installment. “If we do Dying Light 3 , then I would like the main character to start with bigger and better abilities and starting skills ,” she said during an interview focused on the big DLC coming to part two. “We have used basically the same approach in [Dying Light 2] that we used in the first game, where the player was starting quite weak and then developing further,” he added to his statement.
Smektala has come to this conclusion after reflection after the release of Dying Light 2
“We did something very different in the second one and actually this is something I would like to have corrected when I look at Dying Light 2 from the perspective of three months after the release,” Smektala confessed. “So I think in the third game, if it happens, that the character will start with more powers, more skills, more abilities as his basic skill set,” she concluded. Do you agree with Smektala’s statements? Would you like this new approach for Dying Light 3 ?
