Blizzard has decided to postpone the launch of Diablo Immortal in China just a few days from the release date.
Activision Blizzard has decided to postpone the launch of Diablo Immortal in China to a few days from the debut scheduled for June 23rd. An official post states that the postponement was decided to make a series of optimizations to the game and expand the number of supported devices, but there could also be other reasons.
“We are sorry to inform you that the scheduled launch of Diablo: Immortal on June 23 will be delayed,” reads the official page of Diablo Immortal for the Chinese market.
“The development team is making a number of optimization adjustments to the game: support for a wider range of models and devices, the highest quality rendering on more models, a lot of experience, network and performance optimizations, and more. We believe that the game experience in the official online version will become smoother and bring better game content to everyone.”
For the time being, Blizzard hasn’t announced a new launch date for Diablo Immortal in China, but has promised a series of compensation bonuses for the delay.
If what Blizzard claims is true, it is not explained why the game was postponed practically at the last moment and not before. As Niko Partner analyst Daniel Ahmad points out, the decision came after Diablo Immortal’s official Weibo account (a Chinese social platform) was banned for “violations of related laws and regulations”, so the two could be connected.
Diablo Immortal was not released in the Netherlands and Belgium due to the use of a lootbox system, however China has no similar restrictions, so it is unclear why the game’s Weibo account was banned.
