Blizzard has detailed plans for post-launch support for Diablo 4, which includes seasonal content, battle passes, and cosmetic items that can be purchased with premium currency.
With a long post on the official Blizzard website, the Diablo 4 developers talked about plans for post-launch support, confirming the presence of battle passes and microtransactions to purchase items for aesthetic customization, as well as new free content for everyone.
Joe Shely, game director of Diablo 4, explains that the game is seen internally as a live service and that for this reason they have taken great care in programming the content arriving after the game’s debut in stores. First, a season structure was confirmed as in previous chapters, with the aim of “shaking up the game by creating unique experiences with each new quarterly release”.
Blizzard promises that each season will bring with it new features and missions with challenges and mysteries to discover, which will delve into the world of Sanctuary and offer new opportunities for character progression. There will also be live events with unique rewards and adventures up for grabs.
In this regard, one of the goals of the developers is to constantly evaluate the balance and bring a breath of fresh air to the meta each season, “adding new legendary and unique items, Scoreboards of Excellence, glyphs and more”. Not just new content and balances: Blizzard’s goal is to constantly improve the quality of the Diablo 4 experience in the years following its launch.
“As this is a live service, we intend to keep Diablo IV standards particularly high. We are here to build a living world to be proud of and the best way to do that is to engage our players directly.”

The return of the Season Journey has also been confirmed , with limited-time rewards.
“Completing the Season Journey is quite a feat, with the final step demanding the character overcome an extremely difficult encounter with an especially deadly foe. With future Season Journeys, we are regularly adding pinnacle-level difficulty challenges for players to complete, proving their worth and earning unique cosmetic rewards besides.”
The Season Path will be free for all players, and completing its objectives will allow players to level up the Season Pass , a feature with progression similar to the Battle Passes seen in many other games.
As explained by Blizzard, the Season Pass “includes both free rewards (cosmetic items, premium currency and game upgrades) and paid rewards (cosmetic items and premium currency only)”. It is also specified that the pass also guarantees seasonal upgrades (as a bonus to the Experience Points obtained) but which will be free for everyone.
There will also be the Shop , where cosmetic items that can be purchased with premium currency will be on sale.
“The Shop’s cosmetics build on top of the foundation of a huge variety of transmogs from weapons and armors players will find in-game. It’s also important to us that the Shop is grounded within Diablo’s world, so our cosmetics are holistic fantasies, the individual components of which can be mixed and matched with transmogs from armors acquired in-game for endless customization options.”
Blizzard points out that the Shop is an optional feature and promises that the best cosmetic items are free .
“Diablo IV will ship with hundreds of transmogs unlockable from drops in-game, including dozens of armor sets of the highest visual quality. There are incredible pieces—Unique and Legendary quality items—for players to find without ever going to the Shop. The Shop offers more diversity of choices, not systematically better choices.”
We remind you that Diablo 4 will be available during the course of 2023 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One. According to a leak, the release date will perhaps be announced in December , on the occasion of The Game Awards 2022.
