The studio will have to quickly look for another director.
Another “Star Trek” starring Chris Pine is a priority project for the studio. It was supposed to be directed by Matt Shekman (WandaVision), but had to leave the film due to scheduling conflicts.
It was previously reported that Shekman will lead the Fantastic Four for Marvel. And now it will be his next project.
Following the success of WandaVision, Shakman became one of Hollywood’s most in-demand directors. In addition to the Marvel show, he has also worked on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Game of Thrones.
The last part of Star Trek at the time of writing was released in 2016. Due to the weak box office of the picture, the studio planned to restart the series with different directors, including Tarantino himself, but in the end, he nevertheless decided to continue developing the franchise launched by JJ Abrams.
Star Trek 4 is due out on December 22, 2023. It is not yet known if the change in director will lead to rescheduling.
