“ I want everything, but judiciously [and] responsibly over time.”
Andrew Dabb, showrunner for the new Resident Evil series on Netflix, spoke to Polygon about his desires for a sequel.
Dabb doesn’t yet know if the series will be renewed for a second season, but if the sequel does get a green light, he wants to bring in even more of the franchise’s well-known characters – potentially almost all of them.
“Over the course of the series, I want to bring everything in,” Dabb says. “Left to my own devices, I want Lady D, I want the plant monster, I want it all. I want everything, but judiciously [and] responsibly over time.”
The showrunner is interested in showing the world of the franchise not only at the very beginning of the spread of the virus, but also how it can change in 10-15 years. However, whether he will be able to do this is still unclear.
The Netflix series based on Resident Evil received the lowest viewer rating of any adaptation of the game franchise on the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, but at the same time it has one of the highest ratings among critics. Whose opinion is more important for Netflix, time will tell.
