The adaptation of the fighting game that was released in 2021 continues with the same director and the writer of the Moon Knight Disney + series.
At the beginning of the year it was announced that Mortal Kombat (2021) would have a sequel and it seems that Warner Bros. trusts the team that worked on the film reboot based on the NetherRealm Studios saga. As reported by Deadline , Simon McQuoid will return to direct this installment written by Jeremy Slater, lead writer of Moon Knight , the Disney+ series.
Mortal Kombat was the directorial debut of McQuoid – who had experience in television commercials, many of them for video games such as Call of Duty or Halo 3 – and was released simultaneously in theaters and HBO Max in the midst of the COVID pandemic, in April 2021 It achieved first place at the box office during its premiere and on the streaming platform , performing better than expected . This is why the sequel was confirmed so quickly, and one of the first goals was to bring back McQuoid, who has several projects in the works, including the sci-fi thriller Omega for Sony.
