God of War was one of the sources of inspiration for the weapon of the film’s protagonist Prey and the shield of the new Predator.
Video games are a great source of inspiration, even for the world of cinema. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg said God of War is one of the sources of inspiration for the weapon of the film’s protagonist – Naru – and the Predator’s shield.
As anyone who has seen the film will easily guess, the reference is to Kratos’ ax and shield . The Spartan’s weapon can be launched and recalled; in a similar way, the protagonist of Prey – in the course of the film – learns to throw and pull towards her with the help of a lasso her own weapon.
As for Predator’s shield , similar to Kratos, Prey’s hunter monster carries it on his forearm and opens it when needed. The resemblance to Kratos’ instrument is easy to notice.
The information was shared by talking to CassiusLife, as you can see in the video above. “It was the Predator’s shield (that was inspired by Kratos’ shield) and it was her (Naru’s) tomahawk that she makes (that was inspired by Kratos’ axe), because she throws it and pulls it back, it was very much inspired by that game (God of War)”. In the video above there are some scenes from the film , which show the shield and the tomahawk. The director then confirms that he is excited for the arrival of God of War Ragnarok.
Prey also has another connection with video games: the director has in fact chosen the composer of the film after playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla .
