Marvel canon has been updated with some very relevant information, as we now know who created Captain America’s shield, although there is something sinister behind it.
Attention SPOILERS of the comic Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #3 by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly. It’s hard to see this great hero with a weapon in battle, as Captain America often relies on his vibranium shield from him. But until now, they hadn’t revealed who was behind the creation of one of Marvel ‘s most iconic objects , whose core material is extremely rare outside of Wakanda . But someone went to the trouble to set some aside to create the shield in World War II.
Captain America travels to Germany only to discover that the “clean power plant” is a front for the mysterious Outer Circle, a clandestine organization that has had a hand in some of history’s great events. Steve Rogers learns of this organization’s existence from the mysterious Doctor Boka Agboje , who is the one who created and operated the vibranium forge that ultimately resulted in the famous white, blue, and red shield.
This contradicts some precedents.
In the 1981 comic Captain America #255 it was revealed that the shield was created by an American metallurgist named Myron MacLain, who made a hybrid material of vibranium and adamantium. MacLain actually fell asleep during the bonding process and was unable to recreate the shield, as he claimed that an element he was unaware of during creation must have been added, but it would fully develop adamantium. Now, Marvel reveals that Doctor Agboje is the true creator of the shield and the forge and we also know the meaning of its design. Since we learn that his symbol is three rings around a star. An outer circle that he controls, two inner circles that obey, and a star, which is a weapon.
Synopsis for Captain America – Sentinel of Liberty #3 (2022):
“Captain America tracks the mysterious organization known only as the Outer Circle to a laboratory in the heart of a volcano, where the original creator of the shield left a nefarious message. But the Outer Circle will not let the information pass without a fight. Will Steve survive long enough to find out? Meanwhile, Bucky Barnes finds himself in a high-stakes battle with none other than Dryad herself…Peggy Carter!”
While in the Marvel Cinematic Universe , it is Howard Stark who builds Captain America’s shield, something essential to be able to defeat HYDRA during World War II. Something that we can see in the movie Captain America: The first Avenger that was released in 2011, which is available on the Disney Plus streaming platform.
